The primary mission of the National Facility for Ultra Precision Surfaces is to act as the UK’s national focus for R&D and manufacture, as related to ultra precision surfaces.
The Facility provides advanced capabilities for the design, fabrication, metrology and use of surfaces, especially optics. This is complemented by expertise in associated technologies such as opto-mechanical design, controls and software, and systems-design for instrumentation.
The mission of the Facility also encompasses training at Apprentice, Masters and Doctoral levels, and public dissemination.
The Facility is operated by Glyndŵr University with established funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Welsh Government and The Technology Strategy Board.
