Precision Machine Assembly Laboratory at Cranfield University
The precision machine assembly laboratory at Cranfield University is a highly temperature temperature controlled and clean machine tool development laboratory. The facility is used for the construction, build and commissioning of precision and ultra precision machine and production systems stemming from Cranfield’s machine technology and renewable energy research programmes.
The laboratory is fully equipped with a 10 tonne crane, vibration insensitive plinth, vibration insensitive interferometers, modal test facilities, spindle error analysers, laser machine alignment interferometers, precision electronic levels and other machine construction supporting devices.
The Precision Engineering Institute at Cranfield University is an established supplier of optics and systems to ESO, ESA, NASA, The National Physical Laboratory and industrial programmes. Delivered products are measured using fully traceable metrology systems.
