Metrology for Additive Manufacturing

One of the main barriers currently preventing additive manufacturing from accomplishing its full potential is the inability of current available metrology solutions to fully characterise the processes and provide quick and easy quality control of the final products after their manufacture. The urgent need to develop the next generation of non-destructive metrology that will operate on the new and demanding material configurations and geometries that are produced via AM is highly challenging. Accurate and application-specific non-destructive metrology in the area of AM will allow the characterisation of the production processes currently used. This in turn will lead to the successful integration of AM in precision and high-rate manufacturing processes and hence into industrial sectors which currently cannot take full advantage of the many design freedoms and the cost savings that AM could provide.

This meeting is a Free event being held at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, Coventry, UK on 8th December 2015.

Jointly organised by the Manufacturing Metrology Group and the Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing Research Group (3DPRG) at the University of Nottingham, this one day meeting will provide background information and a number of technology reviews on developing next-generation of metrology tools for AM.
