Reel to Reel Production Technology
The EPSRC Centre in Ultra Precision is holding this one day meeting at the Sustainable Product Engineering Centre for Innovative Functional Industrial Coatings (SPECIFIC), Baglan Energy Park, Port Talbot on Wednesday 25th June 2014.
Future technologies for large area electronic and optical functional surface are going to have to use reel-to-reel (roll-to-roll) production methods to achieve economies of scale and provide the cost benefits that such technologies have promised. A lot of this technology can be taken from the existing print industries, however, working with multiple base and interstitial materials, multi-function coatings and alignment of fine functional features during lamination are all new areas that the traditional print industry has not necessarily had to face. This event will allow researchers and industrialists already involved in such production technology to explain what the issues are likely to be, what exists today that could enable early adoption and what obstacles there may be in establishing production facilities in the UK. Some of the application areas for such products will also be considered, such as building scale organic photovoltaic (OPV) energy capture and metre wide luminaires.
Speakers:
- Dr Eifion Jewell, SPECIFIC IKC
Manufacturing Scale Up of Energy Systems in the Build Environment - Dr Hsin-Ling Liang, CAPE, University of Cambridge
Roll to Roll Manufacturing of Liquid Crystal Panels - Dr Raymond Knaapen, VDL Enabling Technologies Group B.V.
Equipment for Atmospheric, Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition in Roll-to-Roll Processes - Dr Martyn Cherrington, Knowledge Transfer Network UK
Overview of Knowledge Transfer Networks - Manuel Gallardo, Bosch Rexroth
Advanced Web Handling (Tension Decoupling Network) - Dr Phil Rumsby, M-Solv Limited
Processes & R2R Tools for the Digital Manufacture of Large Area Electronics Devices - Rob Hendriks, NovaCentrix
Photonic Curing of Conducting Structures for OPV/OLED Applications - Dr Paul Reip, Intrinsiq Materials Limited
Novel Copper Inks for Printed Electronics
The day will also include a corridor tour of Specific’s facilities.
Please note that photographs will be taken throughout the day for the Centre’s use in publications and website. If you have any concerns, please notify us on the day.
